Ready Brake, NOT Ready Brute, any experience?

Looking at Ready Brake, NOT Ready Brute Elite as I already have a Blue OX Aventa tow bar. So, unless someone wants to give me $550 plus shipping for the bar, I will try and use it with the Ready Brake.

Now the question, does anyone have the Ready Brake system and what has been your experience. Do you see any difference in that the Ready Brake goes into your receiver and then the Blue Ox goes into the Ready Brake, thus moving the tow vehicle back from the motorhome.

Ready Brake says the pin holes on the Ready Brake are 9.5" apart, so it looks like it will lengthen the whole unit about 5"

Also, doe the Ready Brake interfere with the storage operation of the Blue Ox?

Thanks

  • It works fine. You do need two more hitch pins and if you want locking ones, you should get a set of three that is keyed alike. Also, it sticks out pretty far when stowed, so remember that when backing against a wall, fence, etc.
  • liltipy,
Well Sir, I've used the Ready Brake for several years and it's a great system. Now, I don't mount and setup the system like they want you to because, well quite frankly, it's a real "hoaky" install, if you ask me. So, I modified all of it. But, that's beside the point. Anyway, If you'd like some pics of how I did it, which is seriously better and more efficient than the way they want you to do it, then I'd be glad to send you an array of pics and, an explanation of what I did and why. Below is a picture of my very recent setup of our newly acquired 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 as a toad and carrier of our 900 lb. Honda Goldwing. I'd already done the internal cable, housing and brake pedal connection install but, hadn't done the link cable just yet, that's why it's not in the picture.

  • Although I bought a Ready Brute tow bar to start with, I foolishly bought a US Gear braking systems instead of the Ready Brake. I ditched the US Gear system a year ago (too often an electrical or vacuum pump problem) for their add-on brake system. It's worked great and the added length keeps my toad from hitting the MH in a tight turn.

    Thanks

Just makes it a little longer is all and not a problem. Just be sure to get one that's rated as much or more than your hitch receiver.

Not much difference than using the READYBRUTE tow bars and either way it's going to be a little longer with the READYBRAKE actuator in between.

It will lengthen the unit at least 9.5".
It will not interfere with your Blue Ox. Just be careful to not pinch cables while moving Blue Ox to storage position.
  • I use ready break and it works great. I tow a Saturn Ion and I have a8 inch drop adapter, and the car is almost exactly level with the motorhome. I would think a HHR is almost identical in the towing

    setup

  • That the same setup that I'm using right now, no problems so far. That's the way it's designed to be used.
