Ready Brute Elite or Ready Brake on 2013 Honda CRV

I have a 2013 Honda CRV setting up to tow behind my F53 gasser. I really wanted to go with the Ready Brute Elite tow bar which has the Ready Brake built into it.

NSA's web site lists a company in San Leandro, Calif. as the closest installer ( a 40 minute drive each way for me ) but when I went there the owner said he dosn't want to do it on a CRV. Says it's " too difficult ".

I called NSA and spoke to the boss, he says installers put it on CRV's all the time but " if he dosn't want to do it ,can't make him do it ".

I live in N.Calif. in the East Bay Area.
Next closest installer is 450 miles away down in L.A.
I guess I'll have to go with something else.
  • ..You posted on my other thread, where I have a very similar dilemma - Already own Readybrake, really want to use it on our 2nd toad, but RV dealer says no can do (as I said in that thread, I don't believe him, haha).

Here's what I'm going to (and am doing) now: I'm taking the DVD, and documentation/instructions that came with Readybrake. Going to give it to Ford dealer as well as a few other reputable repair shops I know, see if any of them are willing to install it. Like already said, it does NOT have to be an 'official' Readybrake authorized shop. ANY good mechanic should be able to do it (although I'd prefer one that knows the particular vehicle well, hence the reason I'm going to try the Ford dealer first).

Since it would cost me over $1000 to get another brake system, even if I have to pay for several hours of a mechanic's labor to install Readybrake, I'm still ahead of the game.
  • I did my own and it was quite easily done. A few wrenches and elbow grease and a couple hours. 2005 CRV!
  • Why do you need an authorized installer? Anyone with basic mechanical skills and tools should be able to install that easily.
  • Blue Ox ! I was going to do it myself but when DW heard about front end removal she didn't want me doing it in the drive-way.

$300 installation ( bought actual base plate from Amazon, $370 ).
  • Which baseplate are you going with??

I chose BlueOx which is great but the installers had to do a little cutting. Boy I was freaked out when I walked in to see my 3 week old car looking like it was in a wreck with the whole façade having to be taken off.
