Ready Brute Elite Question

Purchased our new Toad and I am getting ready to order what I need to switch to a flat tow. (Good bye dolly and I am not shedding any tears!)

I had decided to go with Ready Brute Elite as I like the simple, practical design.

Here is my problem (at least I think it might be). The new car has adjustable pedals. I like them in one spot and DW in another. I think hooking the brake control cable up might be a problem as it would need to accomadate the possible differences in the distance from the fire wall to the pedal. No problem when towing really but more so when driving the car.

Hook it up at my preferred position, furthest away, and the cable will prevent the inward movement of the pedals. Hook it my wifes preferred location and the cable will droop out of the front of the vehicle when I drive.

I am thinking about just positioning the pedals for me, as I drive it 90% of the time, pulling the fuse for the adjustment and everyone-else can adjust the seat when they drive. Sounds selfish so suggestions welcomed.

Anyone have to deal with this problem and if so what did you do?

Thanks

So, put a hook of some type beside the cable, and hook the loop to it when not being towed.
  • Thanks for the responses.

I thought about hooking up with the pedals as close to the seat as possible as this is the only position that would not restrict full back & forth adjustement of the pedals. I am concerned about the amount of cable sticking out of the front of the car with the pedals adjusted closest to the floor and the car not in tow, which is 99% of the time.

Maybe just me but the thoughts of 4 inches of aircraft cable hanging from the front bumper --- well let's just say, not my first choice appearance-wise.

Anyhow, Readybrute is still my number one option. I think I will explore a way to hide the cable behind the front fasicia when not in use, without restricting the ability of the cable to move freely.
  • I just completed 1600 mile trip with the Elite and it was great. My only caveat to you would be to carefully check the location where the Ready Brake cable exits your car and the cable is attached. When the car is NOT being towed, each time you depress the brake, the cable connection is extended and the retracts when brake pedal is released. Be sure the cab,e does not hang up on anything and the cable fully retracts or the brakes will still be applied

    Great thinking and logic.

    +1
  • I set my cable with the pedals moved closest possible to the driver. That spot can always be repeated.
  • I cannot imagine the peddle adjustment is more than a couple of inches. I would set cable at the for the greatest movement and allow the loop to be exposed in front by an inch or two when your wife is driving. My loop is attached to a mounting hitch so it is exposed by about 4 inches (really, it sticks out). It really is not noticeable, and it certainly will not catch on anything while driving. Even if somebody walks by and says:????, and tries to pull the ring, no big deal. JMHO
