It is currently 12 years for the first recertification. Then every five years for visual inspection or seven years for a pressure test.
There was a permanent change made by DOT that had gone into effect that changed the first recertification inspection be at 10 years and pressure testing was changed from 7 years to every 10 years.
However in March the National Gas Propane Association challenged the change on the basis it was made without any rationale or justification. It was a totally bureaucratic decision without any technical consulting with the propane gas industry.
Since the challenge DOT has suspended the change in the regulations and it has fallen back to the previous 12 year, 5 year and seven year inspections pending further review.
Temporary halt on new regs pending NPGA challenge to the validity of the rulemaking change. The regulation was changed without any rationale or justification provided.
