Recommendations for ocean water kayaks

Good day,

In the market for ocean water kayaks. Not sure to buy two singles or to buy one double.

Any thoughts on the subject.

Thanks,

  • We have 2 single Hobies Small and easy to move around. They are the sit on top. Love them
  • DW and I have Swift kayaks (singles) and love them. Singles are much easier to share the water bottle, the cookies or our camera. The Swifts are built in Ontario, Canada. The cockpits are X large which makes it easier to get my 60+ year old body into it. It also makes it easier to strip my fly line onto the floor when out fly fishing. The other consideration was weight when we ordered these. I carry my kayak with one hand as it only weighs 32 pounds which makes it very easy to carry in a portage. Seems funny to be thinking on this as we probably got a foot of snow over the weekend and the wind is now blowing some of it around.
  • We too are looking for a kayak or even two. Being in a mh makes space tight so we are focusing on the inflatables such as those found at Sea Eagle (good grief, I'm sounding like an advertisement). Anyway, they seem to have the capacity, would appreciate any other input as well.

  • I would recommend single as well due to the divorce issue mentioned above. I do a lot of fresh and salt water fishing from a Hobie Quest fishermen. Sit on tops are preffered for their safety and stability as well as being able to sit in them sideways or maneuver around in the cockpit. You want something that is 11' - 14' in length and around 29" - 32" wide. There are a lot of good makes from Hobie, Perception, Wilderness Systems just to name a few.

Depending on your area and the weather you may be able to test some out if the shop has a pool or a pond close by.

    Good luck.
  • single. we have been kayaking since 1998. double seated boats are known as divorce boats...we tried the double seated, got rid of that boat quick. ;-)
  • wife wants double, so I can do all the work LoL I prefer singles we can take more camping stuff with us!
