What you see others doing...does it mean it is right or safe
My half ton Silverado is loaded up with +2K to ~3K of wood pellets each year.
Ditto fire wood. Ditto garden supplies, etc
It has 1 ton helper springs, so it doesn't drop much over 2 inches. The OEM
RGAWR is +4K lbs plus the 2K helper springs...makes it a +6K sprung live axle
BUT the axle is still a +4K GAWR
I looks 'okay' to anyone just looking at it
But...I don't drive out on the freeway when loaded like that. Nor do I go over
35 MPH
Even then, I have to replace the rear axle bearings on the semi floater every
few years.
That is called over loaded and the accelerated wear and tear from being over
the ratings limit
