Reese WD hitch head broke

I noticed that one of the bars was about to fall out the other day. Figured I didn't put it in right but when I went to reset it I noticed the metal tab that holds it in was missing. Well, that really stinks. Had to pick up a new head for $164!!! I hate "wasting" money on stuff like that. I don't know how it broke it's only 3 years old. The new one has more steel in the area where the tab is, it's thicker in that spot.

  • Ok I contacted Reese and the head has a lifetime warrantee. They are sending me a new one and a return label for the original. I have not used the replacement I purchased so I am going to return that. So I'll just be out about $25 for shipping on the return. I usually look into stuff like this BEFORE I make a purchase!
  • Mine was bulging on the side, and beginning to break. I emailed a couple of pics to Reese and they sent me a new hitch head. The new one is redesigned, and much beefier. Didn't cost me a dime.
  • The metal strip is replaceable. Make sure you get the little pin that holds it on the hitch. It is a drive in pin by a hammer.
  • I'll contact Reese and see what they say. If they replace it I'll have a back up.

Maybe if you contact Reese you might be able to get full or partial reimbursement on the broken head.
  • Broke one of mine too. Reese overnighted a replacement head no charge.

If you would have contacted Reese first they may have replaced it for you!
  • Great post Barney.....I went out to check my Reese SL to make sure it is good.
  • Reese had a problem with some of the trunnion style heads some time back. They should have replaced it free of charge, according to what most others have said, if it was a Reese.
Take a look at this post by member JBarca that shows pictures of his broken hitch and see if that is what happened to yours. Scroll down to the 9th or so picture to see what I am talking about.
