When we first moved here from Arizona 16 years ago, I updated my personal web site with a list of the funniest Northwestern things we saw, like "Turf Builder with Moss Control." For some reason we can't recall now, that seemed hilarious. Another one was people wearing Gore-Tex over 3-piece suits. And traffic backups due to sun. Not to mention coffee sold out of an Easy-Up on every corner. DH just could not believe that one. Now they have built little drive-through huts and we have bikini baristas.
To me one of the weirdest things here now is how some people seem to cultivate the moss on their roof, so the place looks like a fairy tale cottage in the woods. It destroys the roof, but what the heck, I guess they figure they'll have to replace it in 30 or 40 years anyway.
