Massachusetts has excise tax paid yearly to your city/town and then there is the state registration fee paid yearly.
Excise tax is based on value and comes down every year for about 7 years or so and then stays fixed at that amount forever. The plate fee is a flat fee of $50/year.
Excise tax is a total rip, but when it finally bottoms out, it isn't too bad.
