Rent vs. tow

It's getting time to replace my wife's jeep wrangler and due to the horrible treatment we have received from most of the jeep dealers in our area, a new one is not a option. Most of the towable vehicles she does care for. With that said, if you were only using a towed two or three weeks a year, would you own something just for the sake of it being towable or would you just arrange a rental when you get to the area you are going? Anyone that has rented, how has it worked out for you?

  • We use our toad 24 7 so renting. is out of the question. I would get a Honda CRV.
  • I don't much like the local Ram/Jeep/Chrysler dealer, but that doesn't stop me from having the vehicles I like!
But then, since I will not buy NEW vehicles, I seldom have any warranty issues where I HAVE to go to the durnfool dealer.
Find a good used Wrangler, and find a good place to have it serviced, and forget the dealers. Just remember, THEY need customers, but YOU don't need THEM!

I agree with the previous posters. IF you go somewhere where rentals are available then financially you may be better off renting. but then there is the convenience factor. us? before we started towing we would rent. at first it was OK but it soon became a royal PITA. yes, enterprise will pick you up but in most cases we then had to take the agent back to the office and then sign the papers and then reverse the process when we returned the rental. in 27-seasons we've only stayed at two parks that had on-site rentals.
  • I agree with Bumpy on this. A lot of the places we go do not have rental places and we would be without transportation. I like towing my own and using it when needed. JMO
