Through no fault of my own i find myself with THREE campers. A completely restored 1976 GMC motorhome, a hybrid trailer (with an excursion to pull it) and a Sprinter van conversion The van conversion is in progress and I think it will be the one that really meets our needs. None of these are high value and pristine. I just retired. I need another revenue stream. I'm looking at Outdoorsey but there are also options where you can provide insurance roadside yourself through a 3rd party. Usually when this comes up people scream that it's crazy and they'd never do it. Meanwhile Outdoorsey is moving a lot of RVs so somebody most be doing it. I'd love to hear from you

i've never rented oir motorhomes, never allowed anyone else to use them. nobody will take care of your property as well as you will. think carefully about this.

If you do rent them out there are many important items to keep in mind...Insurance is #1. Make sure ahead of time that your insurance covers you and also the renter. Regular insurance that most people have for their personal RV/trailer/etc does NOT cover things if you RENT them out. Think "worst case" scenario...An accident with injuries/death/etc. Without insurance, you could be out hundreds of thousands of dollars or more. Having worked for one of the RV rental companies as well as truck rentals, be aware of the following:Charge a big cleaning deposit, and be prepared for people to return units filthy to a degree you never thought possible. Think crime scene. There will be damage, develop a relationship with a body shop / RV repair shop or develop some skills.Be prepared to "write off" these vehicles after 1-5 seasons, if you keep them rented out the wear accelerates tremendously. Be prepared to go get one from time to time. Renters get sick / injured / have family fights and may abandon a vehicle.As been mentioned, insurance is very critical & develop a thick skin.

There have been a few on here that have done that and seem to be happy with it and the way it helps pay for their RV. Here is one example They list on RV Share and seem to do very well. They also list on Outdoorsy On a personal note I have run across a few campers that had rented them thru RV Share and Outdoorsy. One told me that the person that he rented from had 2 Majestics that he rented out.One trip recently,a Chinese couple parked one space away from me and I happened to ask how they liked their Former Rental.I was surprised when they told me that they had rented from a man in their Chinese Community that had 5 of them and rented mostly within that community. They told me that they had reserved months in advance just to get an open spot. I seemed that he was doing very well.

IT'S CRAZY AND I WOULD NEVER DO IT!!!!!!!LOL.Seriously though, I would not with one I used, but if I had two others that I didn't use why not? I know from owning 6 rental properties in the past its all about how you screen the renters, and require a large security deposit. On the properties the lease I used would screen out most of the douchebags, the high deposit most of the rest. Doesn't always work, a few will slip through the cracks. It will take some work on your part but you're retired. There is no equal opportunity woke krap renting RVs, at least here, so if you don't like what you see, and feel. Go with your gut. You could always tell them No.

Given where you are at, how about looking into parking it seasonally in a campground geared to your potential customers and then renting it out thru Airbnb or similar? You park it, set it up and rent it out. People get the "camping experience" without having to actually having a camper or driving it. At the end of the rental season, bring the rigs back home. I would suggest you hit up Pinterest and do a search for Airbnb rental tips or similar wording.

You are very quick to point out you weren’t asking for opinions, fine. But I notice there is a complete lack of what you claim to be looking for, which was success stories. Perhaps that’s because there aren’t very many.

As I said before, I have done it. For years we owned an rv rental business. Renting your own rv is a bad idea. It will get damaged, accelerated depreciation, etc etc. If you don't care about it then what you literally end up doing is trading cash for an RV worth much less.

No significant failure stories either. But someone is renting these things. It would appear those people are not in this forum.

I already know some people are succeeding at this. A big Class A in my town, and a Van Life type with a conversion similar to mine, both have told me it's working pretty well.

I was seeking a bigger data set.

Yup, i'm beginning to think that might be the case, and it's sad.

I've been ere a long time. It seems to have changed in the last few years as forums have generally been displaced by facebook and reddit.

You've got a pretty big attitude.

You have found every response here to be worthless, except for Matt Collie. Even folks who did not boohoo your idea but offered practical suggestions (insurance, etc) are worthless. You don't need advice. You've got it all figured out.

You have a 46 year old motorhome, but YOURS is special. Yours is not some other worthless old piece of **** like all the others. Yours will attract special renters who will take care of your RV and baby it out on the road.

Right. That attitude pretty much guarantees your enterprise to be a disaster.

I have no doubt if you search hard enough you will someone will support your enterprise. Heck, I bet you can find people who champion buying lottery tickets to fund retirement. Hint, that won’t work because I have dibs on tonight’s $800,000,000 Powerball.
I know that owning RV parks for decades , rental RVs take a beating. My staff and I spent a whole lot of time and used up a whole lot of Duct Tape and Hillbilly engineering to get them down the road to their next stop. And those were late model rigs purposefully built for rental use.

I'd also add that I bet you'd find the majority of folks renting out RVs on Outdoorsey, etc, are doing so with units purchased specifically for the renting and NOT their personal vacation RVs.

Yes, that's what I've heard. they start with their own and if it works out they get another just for rental.

In my case, i have three so it's just a matter of not renting the next one i plan to use.

My wife likes to camp in the hybrid within a few hours of home. The GMC is for tourism and the van will be for epic road trips. At least that's the plan.
