I turned my house in Moab into a resort rental before I moved and sold it. This was a little different from AirBNB, but not much. I had a professional property manager. It took some money to set it all up but I made a lot.
I wouldn't hesitate to use my RV as an AirBNB or VRBO rental. First, these websites have extensive regulations as to deposits, etc. and also insure your property - that's why they get a cut of the money. Lots of people use these sites and most people are not destructive. It's a notch above motel/hotel rooms. I've stayed in a bunch of them and have never heard any complaints from the owners. Having your sister there on-site also helps.
I wouldn't hesitate to do it. And you don't need to be in a tourist area for it to make money - a lot of people use them like one would a motel room, just a place to stay on the road through.
