Why take a ford engine to a tire shop.. Well, my story is not a Ford, nor an Engine (it was brakes) but on the car I used to tow I had excessive Brake Pedal Travel, the Dealer noted it but could not figure out why and correct.
Finally I put the power of my mind on the task, Sitting at my desk during a quiet period I visualized the brake system.. Figured out what the problems was. Went to Tire shop next day, they confirmed and fixed it.
Dealer not always best it seems.
