Sometimes miss fires don't through a code immediately. I went through this on my tow car which was miss firing. No codes showed up when it first started. As the miss fire got worst I checked it again still no codes. Third time I checked I got a code saying miss fire on number one. Which to me it says it has to be a coil, a wire or a plug failing. I played with this for 3 weeks before I got a code. After swapping coils and plugs from another cylinder I concluded it was a bad plug. When I checked it for spark it had a strong spark. My friend noticed a small crack in the plug. Changed plugs and all was well again. My point is it is easy to criticize the mechanic for not finding the proper code but they don't always show up until the miss fire gets bad enough. The fuel pump is another story I hope they make that right with you Garry.
