Just thank the people that have abused the system in the past. Most "rules" nowadays that seem unfair or unnecessary, probably came from somebody taking advantage or being stupid, IMHO.
Absolutely. If there's no repercussion for not showing up, how many people will reserve spots "just in case" they decide they want to go camping? Campgrounds aren't charities, they are businesses and the only way to stay in business is to cover their costs of operation. I'm currently booked at a B&B in Bar Harbor for the end of next week. Taking a fair risk-50% deposit via credit card with the rest due upon arrival. If we cancel less that 14 days out (we are now in that window) not only do I lose the deposit I lose the additional 50%. And we aren't talking a $30/night campground-it's big money. It's a short season for them so to lose even a few nights can be very costly. Once you agree to the terms it's not their fault if you don't make it.
