Reserve America policies

Am very upset about cancelation policy. I cancelled a reservation a full month before my arrival date and was charged $10. When we reserved through the state parks proper (before the contract was given to Reserve America) you could cancel up to 3 days in advance without a penalty. But this new contracting service has everyone locked up with higher rates and fees. I know it is our lazy and cheap park services who didn't want to do the job anymore that gave Reserve America the right to do this to everyone and I think it stinks.
  • Usually canx fees are very clearly indicated on Reserve America if you look before you book. Better be careful about commercial campgrounds - I know of some terrific ones that assess one night's fee as a non-refundable deposit.

You'll want to avoid booking a site any of our Florida State Parks. You'll have to pay $17.75 per cancellation. But our parks here - in my opinion - are staffed with great folks, neither lazy nor stupid.
  • You seem surprised. Did you read the cancellation policy when you made reservations?
  • The cancellation fees are posted. You have to decide if reserving a site is worth the risk if you cancel. If you reserve, the Reserve America did provide you with a service for which they should get paid.

Cancellation policies are the provenance of the individual states that choose to use RA. NY's cancellation policy differs from CT's and so on and so on. For instance, CT waits until a week before a cancellation fee is imposed and NYS charges..9 bucks(?) before a fee is charged 7 days or so for cancellation.
What state is charging 10 dollars for a 30 day cancellation?
  • I wish the cancellation fee were higher. People get on line and reserve all their contingency spots in case they might want to go, thus filling up the parks with unfulfilled reservations. Those who really want to stay are shut out even though sites will be ultimately available. They will cancel a few days in advance, pay a couple of bucks The site will go empty and a family that needs to plan ahead will stay home. Should be a $50 cancellation fee in my mind.
