Residential toilets dont belong in RVs

Or at least the cheap ones do not. This new rig we own came with a standard tanked residential toilet. We were not fond of the idea but went with it for the last 6 weeks. Today or should I say this am was the last straw... the flap stuck just enough to trickle trickle trickle water. You know where this is heading, yes lake commode in the bathroom! This was the second and last time.

New Dometic 310 is installed. Foot flush all the way baby. Now back to drying out the storage bays.
  • Our Terry came with a porcelain RV bowl with foot flush. Best of both worlds, you get the durability and easy-to-clean of porcelain without the hassle of a tank. Can't imagine anyone installing a residential tank-type toilet in an RV. Even qt 1.5 gal/flush you wouldn't last long boondocking.
  • I have a water alarm in the bathroom, kitchen sink area, and outside in the UDC. Add one more, around the water heater.
    Don
  • Maybe I'm missing something but I have never understood putting the big heavy porcelain thing in something that bounces down the road and sways to and fro in corners.....

I'm fine with the plastic deal and foot pedal. Actually easier than reaching for the cheap handle to flush.

And the seat feels the same.

Plastic is lighter. We have to remember, we are not towing our stick and bricks down the road..

Speaking for myself, I would pass by a unit with a residential john in favor of the standard plastic deal.
  • Who's making the Premier Elite 5th Wheel??

One time I contemplated putting in a residential chain toilet (overhead tank in cabinet) Shut-off valve on supply. Turn it off and drain tank for travel.

But didn't have center line to wall clearance for bowl.
  • Someone must have installed it special. Can't imagine the excitement bouncing around the lid, on one ,and all that water, on curves or down I59.
