Restored salvage motorhome

I've been shopping for a used class A coach and have come across a 2007 Monaco Diplomat 40SFT for $79,900. I believe its a restored salvage given the low price. Any idea what the discount from retail should be for a vehicle like this?

  • For that money I would just buy a newer class A in a gasser and enjoy the bliss of not having a wrecked/flooded/burnt/rotted DP.
  • just the term salvage title say it has a scrap value…

a restored, rebuilt, reconditioned, vehicle pretty much still has a scrap value to anyone but the user.. and only then if the user can get a rebuilt title, registration and insurance for it…

you want to take a $80,000 chance on it you are on your own because without a complete history and record of repairs you don’t know what you are even getting…
  • I could be wrong (and often am), but I believe that once a salvage title is issued it will remain so for its life. So the only way I would consider a unit with that title would be if I planned on never reselling it as that could be difficult.
  • I am presently involved in a totaled fifth wheel. On the trip from the factory to the dealer the delivery was detoured and hit a bridge taking the top completely off the rig. Everything was unused. The sticker was $58,000 bought from the insurance company for $1,500. It is taking a fulltime Carpenter 3 months to rebuild the damage and me three Weeks to rewire the 12 volt, 120 volt and trailer wiring as well as TV, satellite, stereo, surround sound, lighting, ac, furnace, fridge, pump and hot water system. Grand total $20,000. Personally I wouldn't buy it the craftsmanship is superior but its still a patch job.
  • They go from 100,000 to 125,000. Good luck on your rebuild. There must be a reason it was totaled.
  • I can't comment on the price, I would check on the title to the RV. If it is a salvage title, check with your insurance company before you buy the unit. Make sure they will insure the RV.
