I sort of retired (again) in 2007, but am able to work part time in law enforcement, keeping up with the kids. ALL of the money I make goes into our travel account, and we use every penny up.
About three years ago, I got the "cancer" word and thought I was going to die, but everything turned out good.
My message is; do all you can as soon as you can, be as young as you can, as strong as you can, laugh, and squeeze yer spouse often! The last part about yer spouse is very important.
There is a book titled Younger Next Year---it's a good read for retiring men. Check the library.
