Or talk to your local government and ask why they encourage developers to build new subdivisions/developments further and further apart, thus leading to building more and more highways to connect them.
I look at the Kansas City area and it is almost like ripples on a pond. They just keep building farther and farther from the center of KC which requires longer commutes, more highways, which in turn requires more money to be spent on highway maintenance, more money for highway improvements, and more money for snow clearing/street salting in the winter. All of which is totally unnecessary, there is plenty of land, and plenty of buildings which could be repurposed.
It's just crazy, and as usual, the taxpayer foots most of the bill.
