We were enroute to camping in PA with friends when the tranny on their Expedition went out. It cost them over $600 to tow their truck and trailer to the transmission shop. We took their kids with us to Dorney Park so they wouldn't miss their vacation, they dry camped in their trailer in the parking lot of the transmission place. Tow company would only tow the TT the same place as the truck.
This was AFTER we spent 3 hours on the shoulder of the NJ Pike by Newark Airport trying to find a tow company that would take the trailer. I finally had to call OnStar from the Suburban and beg them to help us find a tow truck for his Ford....
I have been a Good Sam ERS member ever since but have never needed them.
6.7 I agree with you about being prepared. I have changed tires on the truck and trailer, I have plugged tires on the truck and trailer, I carry tools and fuses and safety wire and most minor stuff.
BUT, if your serp belt breaks, a rad hose blows, fuel pump quits, any number of small items can strand you in the middle of nowhere. I'm not calling Good Sam to change a tire for me, but if I need a tow, they cover that 100% including taking the TT to the nearest CG so I can wait for repairs. That to me is work the $129 I pay every year. ONE incident like that could be $1000....
Yes, you still have to pay for repairs, but do not underestimate the cost of towing a trailer in addition to your truck. Guaranteed the roadside assistance from Dodge is not going to tow the trailer too...
You have a fairly new truck, but if something happened to the trailer where you couldn't tow that would be a problem also.
