E-ZPass Notice for RVs and Passenger Vehicles with Trailers
The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission's E-ZPasstoll-collection system charges vehicles based on the number of axles and the vehicle profile. Occasionally, a customer operating a large recreational vehicle or a Class 1 vehicle (automobile or pickup truck) towing a trailer may be recorded as a truck-rate transaction.
The Commission requests customers who may experience this anomaly in the E-ZPass system at a DRJTBC toll facility to do the following:
1. Check E-ZPass statements for errors - All E-ZPass customers should regularly check their statements to make sure their charges are accurate. If a discrepancy should occur, please contact our Customer Service Center immediately at 800-872-5061, or by visiting www.ezpassnj.com.
2. Pay by cash and request a receipt - DJRTBC toll collectors can convert a valid E-ZPass transaction to a cash transaction. HOWEVER, customers using this option should request a receipt to protect against double billing.
3. Remove and bag the E-ZPass transponder and pay by cash - To completely eliminate the potential for a misclassified vehicle in the first place, it may be preferable for a RV/trailer customer to remove and secure his/her E-ZPass tag and pay the toll manually in a lane that accepts cash payment. In these cases, the E-ZPass transponder must be removed and placed in the read-proof bag before entering the toll-collection lane. (Failure to remove and secure the E-ZPass tag in the read-proof bag could trigger dual billing.)
(Note: All Class 2 vehicles and above with trailers are priced per axle. So, a two-axle truck with a one-axle trailer will be charged a Class 3 rate - $12 peak; a two-axle truck with a two-axle trailer will be charged a Class 4 rate - $16 peak.)
