RODENTS

I would recommend stainless steel wool (it doesn't turn to powder like steel wool), or bronze wool, as suggested above.

Glue traps tend to not work well in the cold... but JAWZ or other large-trigger snap traps placed at edges where rodents run around have been surprisingly effective.

Another thing which has been effective has been putting RV antifreeze in the toilet. Mice/rats think it is liquid water, fall in, and drown. Downside is having to fetch the mouse-sickles.

You live in the country? Get a cat. Or two. Seriously. Several of our neighbors have cats that roam outside. We haven't had mice in our garage for some time now.

I think the biggest factor is to remove anything that can be considered food by vermin. Seasonings, dirty kitchen cabinets or fridge, bathroom supplies, anything!

We tried this - went to the health food store and bought pure peppermint oil. I soaked several cotton balls and placed a few in various drawers. We checked these drawers a few days later only to find the mice had urinated on the cotton balls and continued on their way. We then went back to the old fashioned traps baited with peanut butter. They seem to work.

thanks for the replies, I like the idea of eliminating their route to enter. i'm going to make a tin shield to go around my jack stem also the electrical cord. for the tires i'm working on that.

Try "FRESH CAB". Available from Tractor Supply or Amazon. They come in 4 packs of little pouches with peppermint oil imbedded. Check out the reviews on Amazon. MOST people say they work well and are not poisonous to pets. They keep the mice out instead of killing them inside where it is nasty to clean up. I have used them for 3 years and have never had any evidence of mice intrusion in my 30 ft TT which is stored outside.

Get rid of anything that could be used as nesting material. No blankets, no paper products, no clothing, etc. We do store some blankets and towels in an upper bathroom cabinet in sealed plastic tubs. Obviously, no food as mentioned above.

Tripalot, sorry about your mice invasion. I haven't had a single dropping or urine smell with the peppermint oil in over 10 years, and mine sits in a barn in the country.

Get the right cat and you will never have problems.

As mentioned earlier, get a barn cat preferably female. Males are not as motivated.
