roof cleaner

Simple Green for me, diluted with water per instructions, on my fiberglass roof. I scrub with a long handled brush (so I can stand up to work) and rinse. I have not noticed streaks.

I have noticed wax stripping, probably because once the roof is dry I put a coat of wax on it.

If concerned about streaking from the roof, I'd try washing/waxing the sides first, after which the roof generated streaks should simply rinse off.

I just cleaned my roof - I usually use spic & span but had run out. I saw a full bottle of the spray roof cleaner I bought at CW when I didn't know any better, so I used it as I didn't feel like going to the store at that moment. I was amazed at what a good job this stuff did. I may just make it my go to product.

The same road dirt & soot from the road that gets on the sides falls on the roof. I believe in the KISS principle. Start at the top & use the same stuff all over. Mequires auto/RV soap in the pink bottle.

Twice a year the roof gets a dose of one of the rubber roof conditioners right after a cleaning. 8years old, far from being stain & mark free but looking decent & not dried out.

When I'm on the road, rain takes care of cleaning the roof. At home, the RV lives inside a building that I own. If there are streaks on the sides when I get home, I use a long handled soft brush and a hose to remove them while I'm washing the bugs off the hood and overhang. The only time I've ever washed the roof was at an RV park that had a hose attached to a water pipe and a moving platform to climb up on. And that was in Yukon Territory on my way to Alaska. And the roof wasn't that dirty.
If anyone climbs up a ladder here at home and complains about the dirty roof, I'll be happy to hand them the long handled brush.

I was watching a video that showed a guy cleaning an RV robber roof with a pressure washer, anyone using one on there roofs?

If you guys are getting on your roofs to clean them, how are you inspecting them for tears and/or water leaks?

Pressure washers are not a good idea. It is very possible that it would slice through the rubber membrane.
My rig has a ladder plus my garage I can step between loft and roof, and I have a ladder to lean up against rig. I then usually crawl around roof to inspect sealant.

Just sold my 17 year old Nash. Never washed the roof the entire time I owned it. According to the manufacturer, there is no need. The EPDM is designed to chalk off as it wears. The black streaks are the natural process of the chalking.

As far as I can tell, washing only accelerates the process of natural degradation of the rubber...

Good question. How much pressure does a pressure washer put on a surface?

Try cleaning a dirty car with a pressure washer. I have a 2500PSI washer & it does not get all the dirt off like a brush or sponge will. I use a 5000PSI washer to clean the boat bottom & still need to use a scubbing pad to get the stubborn marine growth off.

For cleaning the rubber roof I have never used a pressure washer. Never had access to one when doing it. I do use a brush & have used a scrubber without any ill effect on the material.

So, yes, I would try a pressure washer, keeping power of the washer & distance from the surface in mind so as not to do any damage.
