We had significant hail damage on the roof of our Toyota Sienna last year. Estimate for the repair was $6k so I asked my insurance company if I could just keep the car as-is and they told me no problem and cut me a cheque for $6k - my deductible. For that price, I certainly don't mind driving the car even if it looks like a golf ball. Especially since it's my wife's car :)
I'm sure when we eventually sell the car, we'll get less for it but not $6k less!
