Rope Lights...really work for rodents?

I'm here in a rv park in southern NM. Most trailer and motor homes have rope light around them or under them, even a few truck have them. So are rope lights a real deterrent to rodents or do these folks just like lighting up the bottom of their rigs?

    Us too...
  • I put LED rope lights around the 5er when camping but only because we like the light from it. :)
  • Some are semi perm, here for the winter. Some are just around the patio areas, which is for aviance I reckon. Some completely surrounds the rv. Others just have the rope lights completely underneath the rv and some under the toads and pickups...

    Near Carlsbad...
  • My guess is that a rope light is like a giant Twizzler to a rodent. yum, yum!

  • Bright light does repel pack rats. Trust me on this. Tucson is the pack rat capital of the world.
  • I just thought people were using rope lights as a new form of landscape lighting.

I have never heard that the deter any sort of rodent.
  • Since they happily come out during the day to eat I doubt they care about rope lights.
Oh and another internet legend we can dismiss; bugs aren't attracted to LED lights. I found out last weekend that this is the farthest thing from the truth.
  • Hi, just curious about this. I am in Southeatern NM and have not seen anything like this, are you seeing a lot? Do they appear to be semi-permanent in the park?

Not sure about the rodent deterrent aspect at all.
