- bailer6334ExplorerAll the above advice is good. I live in Prescott and take all routes mentioned a lot. Only additional info I would give is if coming from I-40 down to Prescott on 89, some spots on the road are a bit bumpy, otherwise OK. Would then take my toad to Jerome and Sedona.
Enjoy - stripitExplorerThere is a pretty decent rv park in Prescott Valley at the PV Fair Grounds. Full hook ups and paved roads, gravel sites. I made the trip from Florida to PV last January and took I-10 to I-17 in Phoenix to I-69 west into Prescott. Good roads and other than one climb on I-17 it is a smooth run. FairGrounds RV Park
- petefExplorertake a gold pan with you, the area around Lynx creek is dedicated gold pan area within the park..if staying around
Lynx lake area - phxchicaExplorerThe above advice is good. The only route you do not want to take is 89A through Jerome and over Mingus mountain. Are you coming on I10 or I40? If I10 then come up through Phoenix and on AZ 69. There is a steep climb on 17 out of Black Canyon City but it is unavoidable. Just try not to do it on the weekend as there is a high probably of an accident on that stretch. If on I40 (which I am thinking is unlikely from Florida) I would agree that 89 at Ashfork is less steep than I17 but either way is doable.
- sch911ExplorerOr, if you're traveling I40, taking AZ89 south from Ash Fork is also easy for your rig.
- RoyBExplorer IIAZ 69 west off I17 at the 262 Exit (Cordes Lakes RD) north of Phoenix looks like a great two separated laned road into Prescott. The roads you want to avoid is 89 and 89A. If you are wanting to go vist Jerome and Sedona then park the big rig and take the Jeep. We always go visit Jerome when we are in that area... Great day and night life haha...
I just ran the AZ69 from the GOOGLE MAP in EARTH MODE a few minutes ago and it looks great.. Zoom on down where can view the two laned highway and walk your way to Prescott... Even can see tractor trailer rigs on 69 heading for Prescott...
Be sure to visit OLD TOWN in Prescott with some of the OLD DAY Bars still running... Some of the rooms are still all shot up just as if it was only yesterday when the saloon's were filled with Cowboys... May have been yesterday haha...
Not sure where you headed to on return but actually 89 north out of Prescott looks good enough to join up with I40... 89 south of Prescott runs into switch backs..
