I know California it's pretty much illegal except maybe in Venice Beach.
I think Tucson, AZ it might be legal.
Im not sure what boondocking means,
if its just stoping to rest overnight,try to arive early and look around where its not only safe but also allowed,,every town has different rules,and folks with welcoming and some also unfriendly atitudes!
I recomend truck stops and WMs.
