"Parking in Venice is hard enough for residents, and now they are finally implementing oversized vehicle parking bans in Venice. Every Venice resident knows their local parking police person, some are even facebook friends, because people will park in your parking space or blocking it, parking is so bad.
“No Oversize Vehicle” signage was installed on over 100 blocks in Venice, the LAPD started to aggressively enforce the ban on sleeping in vehicles (LAMC 85.02), and residents can sign petitions to install overnight restricted permit parking on their blocks with a two-thirds majority among residents in favor of the action. And believe me, the residents all will. (Many of those living in their RV's were sent to the Streets to Homes program for help.) Santa Monica did a major crackdown on RV overnight parking so some of those people moved to Venice and things got ugly. The SM laws had been in existence for decades, but the parking situation had become worse, so they had to enforce it. The DOT is also looking into resident permits on commercial streets in Venice for those who live within a certain distance of the commercial streets, and limited time parking for non-residents.
The RV's are a huge blight in the some areas that needs sprucing up as it is. And it's really not fair to residents (home owners and those who pay rent to landlord property owners) who pay huge property taxes to not have parking for themselves sometimes, or for when their friends visit (literally have to park in a pay lot because of so limited public parking). If one wants to live in Venice, they should pay the price. The people with RV's that have been parking for years are very territorial, and even more so since so many spots have disappeared."
