RV Flat Screen TV

Hi all,
We currently have a 2009 Winnebago View with a 24" Jenson LCD flat screen TV, the TV went out on us a few times on our last outing. Would like to change out the TV prior to our next trip.

I know its TV that run DC power because we can watch it while driving (no genny). Have read that I could buy a flat screen TV that comes with an AC to DC converter, based on my understanding I should be able to use the TV on DC if I don't use the converter.

Is this correct and any suggestion on a 24'-28" flat screen TV

  • I have replaced our Jensen with a Samsung 28" flat screen. I used an articulated mount backed by a flat 1 x 6 board. I have an inverter but have not used it yet.

The Samsung has just over twice the square inch viewing area, and DW loves it.
  • If you are currently on the road check a truck stop. In the 15-24 inch range truckers use 12 volt TV's and many truck stops carry them.

    Google is your friend.

My '07 View has/had a Proview TV (12v) with a screen about 17in diagonal, but was wider as it had speakers out beyond the screen. I have just under 21 inch total space in that cabinet over the dinette. I bought a TV/DVD from Walmart.com NAXA NTD-1955 because it would fit in the same space, but the DVD player will be inaccessable unless I mount it on a scissor mount or telescoping mount and it is too high and in a poor place anyhow, thinking of mounting it on the wall behind the forward facing dinette seat (front side of fridge), which also will require a telescoping and pivoting mount, but will be lower and easier to see from couch or rear facing dinette seat. I've got bigger fish to fry, it's installation is on the back burner for right now.

That is true if the external power supply puts out something like 12V nominal. Many do, but probably there are some that operate at other voltages and would likely not work (and possibly let out the magic smoke) if connected directly to an RV 12V system.

are you sure it's not running off an inverter?
