California for 1 has inspection stations for fruits and vegetables and will make you toss or like they did to my dad one time driving truck peel al his oranges before he could go through! The point to it was looking for bugs or larvae, agriculture here and other places Is huge business and some of the pests have reeked havoc on assorted plants. What they are looking for changes depending on what the challenges are. Shoot we have times here where you can't move fruit from one side of LA to the other due to those pesky fruit flies.
Personally we have thought about one of those hydroponic garden thingies that don't use soil and grow our fresh herbs. Rest of the veggies are probably too much work and the herbs only get used in small amounts so should be good. :B :B
