Many replies and then there is me....
I am an avid gardener and for years we have been going to Florida for the winter. I kept thinking that there has to be some use for me getting earlier veggies in NY with my going to florida.
One year I just grew basil and parsley. We were in Flroida that year for 4 months so I started the seeds the day we got down there. We enjoyed pesto later on:B Those are trouble free plants.
Another year I did lettuce and we had some of that. BUT I learned that year that ANTS and bugs got into the plants when I put them on the ground...so no ground. Picnic table is where all plants go...make crawlers work to get there. We also sprayed around the picnic table legs. The plants went into the van when we travelled weekly to another campground (we were doing art shows).
Then there is this year where I decided to go whole hog. I have 4 BIG determinate tomato plants that are in 3 gallon pots. 2 pepper plants that are in 1 gallons now and later they will go in bigger pots. Then I have a host of seedlings in trays which will go bigger shortly.
So far only aphids on peppers which I used diy insecticidal soap to get rid of. Plants are on table. When we move, I wack the planter on the table a few times to see if there is bug activity. If no we are good to go,
if yes, then I wack some more, until it stops. I would spray the container (not the plants) if I need to.
I am growing: onion plants, basil, lettuce, chives, peppers, tomatoes
all from seed. So far so good; we go home early april. If I see a bug, I had pick it off. I think I am having issues with fungal disease on tomatoes but that is wait and see and spray with baking soda for now....will get liquid copper if I should need it.
I don't mind moving the pots around and this time they will go in the travel trailer so I hope to keep them bug free so I don't have to chuck a plant. I also have a BIG plastic bin that some of the bigger plants will be put in.
If you do it keep them on the picnic table and inspect often...enjoy!
Get a container type tomato plant/determinates only grow to a certain size but sometimes they are still big...one of mine may grow to four
feet but we will be home by then.
