Of my limited camping trips, I haven't noticed anyone snooping around our campsite. I gather most people keep to their own stuff. I do notice at our house many cars driving into our dead end circle and leaving. According to my much more nosey neighbors, they believe these cars are scoping out houses looking for easy targets for theft. I firmly believe that I would have an issue with burglary at my house before I have one at a campground.
That being said, I still lock my things up, only because the thefts that have happened in and around my city were mostly "crimes of convenience". The police said that all but one of the recent car break ins where with cars that were unlocked. The only one where the window was broken was because the owner left a fire arm on exposed on the front seat.
