I have no problem getting another 5th wheel or TT. I know from reading on here and many brand forums that there's a lot of junk out there. A couple hours walk around at an RV show is all that's needed to confirm that. Me personally I'll never by anything from any of the big MFG's. Heartland, Keystone, Forest River, etc. I'm sticking with either Northwood, Outdoors RV or Lance. I have a Northwood currently and while I've had a few issues and other than the faded front cap that's plagued many brands, I've had no issues that were major. One slight water leak is the only thing that I can blame NW for. The other issues were from suppliers that are issues on other brands. I feel that too many get into RV'ing that really don't know what to expect. Many aren't handy or feel that the dealer and MFG should fix everything from a crooked screw to a leaky slide. Somewhere in between those two issues is where owners can make their purchase easier to deal with. I won't take mine back for a repair if I can fix it myself, even if I have to buy something. It's just not worth hitching up and then having it sit on a lot for days to weeks or longer. High expectations seem to be the determining factor for enjoyment. Mine are pretty low. I know these things are sometimes slapped together, so know that going in makes it easier to deal with the smaller problems.
I wouldn't have a problem knowing that many RVs were "slapped together" IF:
a) They cost substantially less.
Sorta like those building kits we bought as kids.
b) I was a jack of all trades.
I'm not and it's too late in the game to start now.The only dirt I want under my fingernails should come from the earth whilst hiking.
You named several RV manufacturers who I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole based on my own research: All pretty and no substance. Mother warned me about that type of thinking when I started dating.
