RV Rental Services

We are getting back into RVing after a 15-year hiatus. We are intrigued by the new services popping up that will rent your RV to others for you, at a fee of course, and allow you to generate some revenue against the monthly payments during the time you are not using it yourself. The two I am aware of are Outdoorsy and RV Rent Life. Does anyone have any experience good or bad with either of these services?

  • Thanks gbopp. "However, some forum members rented their RV and had no or very few problems. But, I think you will find the vast majority will refuse to rent out their rigs. And, maybe, you will have not problems and make a little money renting your RV. "

I hope to hear from those that have and either love it or hate it and why.
  • Darsben1; while I appreciate your comments have you actually done this? No I don’t need to rent my RV to afford it, but as we won’t be using it more than two months out of any given year, it seems a waste to let it sit.
  • Ask the rental companies who will pay to have your RV fumigated for bed bugs and other neat things a renter leaves behind?
Who will remove the toys and other things out of the black tank?
When the renter calls from 500 miles away and says your RV is broke down, who is responsible to get and repair it?

One of my favorite posts on the forum was a question.
Q-What is the difference between a rental RV and an ATV?
A-The rental RV can go anywhere.

I think you're asking for problems if you rent your RV, especially through those 'Rental Services,' They appear to be just another scam.

However, some forum members rented their RV and had no or very few problems. But, I think you will find the vast majority will refuse to rent out their rigs.

And, maybe, you will have not problems and make a little money renting your RV.
  • I would not rent my home out through either of those places I think they are not worth the money you receive.
Your insurance will be more costly.
If you have to rent out your home in order to afford it then you should not buy it
  • Yes, I could see that as an outcome and worse. On the other hand a friend has done Outdoorsy and has not had issues after multiple rentals. But I am open to hearing the experience of anyone who has actually worked the process.
  • yeah. They'll take 25-35% of your money in commission, play around with timely payment by holding it in escrow, side with the renter in any issues, and then disappear if someone damages your RV on an insurance claim. Is your rv worth a newbie tearing stuff up and doing things in your bed?
