RV Salvage

I lost one of the escape windows from my fifth wheel. Since we planned to be in Mt. Vernon, MO this week, I waited to search for one at Colaw RV Salvage. Unfortunately, they did not have a window that would work for me. They invited me to search the yard for a match, and that was quite an experience. They have hundreds of wrecked, burned, and derelict motor homes and campers. (Maybe thousands) They bill themselves as the largest RV salvage in the world. If you find yourself traveling between Joplin and Springfield on I 44, it is worth a stop just to take a look -- pretty impressive.

  • Bet when all the used (and abused FEMA trailers go to salvage, there will be a pile of junk and rotten wood left.
  • Just heard on the news that our county has been rounding up derelict and abandoned RVs. They are demolishing them at a rate of two per day at a cost of $1,000 each. You would think that maybe this would represent a salvage opportunity for someone.
  • I have been past their yard many times while visiting the Carthage area and always wanted to stop and tour the place. I used to dream about finding a project there and rebuilding it, but age and arthritis have caught up with me.
