Your map, your rules. Simple as that. The same goes for the little maps that some of us have in our forum signatures.
(My rule is that I have to sleep overnight in the RV in the state. A short nap doesn't count, but spending a night boondocking or at a Wal-Mart parking lot does--it doesn't need to be a formal campground. Since I haven't had any other RVs, I haven't had to formulate any rule about transferability.)
Actually, the map on my RV itself doesn't have any states filled in, because it was placed there by a previous owner, and they carefully removed the filling-in of the states that they had visited, and so a bunch of the states that I would need are no longer there to stick in. I suppose I could go with a sharpie or a small paintbrush or something and fill them in, but...well, that sounds like more work than I care to expend on it.
