RV training schools

I'm thinking about investing in an RV systems repair course. Does anyone have any experience with a particular program that they would recommend? Did you take the course to become more familiar with your own rig or to generate income?

  • Yahoo/google/yourFavoriteSearchEngine on "RV Repair Certification". I got lots of hits, one for, you guessed it, rvtrainingcenter dot com.

    Have fun!
  • Let me be a little more specific. I'm not interested in doing this for myself. I'm interested in making a buck. Marketing myself to campgrounds, banks, etc. For this kind of stuff you need a "certification" of some sort. To be competitive, do you need to be able to hang out your shield, so to speak.

I'm fairly competent on all of the sytems of an RV having owned one for over twenty years. I'm approaching the next phase of my life and I want to be prepared as much as possible.
  • A year or two on the road and you will quickly see that most of the stuff is common sense and you can fix yourself. AND it's always the same stuff that breaks on RV's. So if you can't figure it out I'm sure the guy parked next to you at a CG will have already repaired that part.

No matter if it's Class A or a TT. The innards are all the same on all the RV's. Any camping store will have the part you need too. Just take a walk thru a small camping store.....you will see they stock all the common parts that are doomed to fail on your RV right on the shelves.:B
  • RV systems are simple systems that are made complex by combining 120V, 12V and propane to run them. I don't know of any course that would cover all the systems of various manufacturers.
This forum is a good resource but you have to remember that anytime you are getting advice from a public forum there will be a lot of bad information. All though most have good intentions you working on your new(er)RV is not the same of someone who did a repair on their older unit.
When you read enough of this forum you will start yo recognize the members who know what they are doing and the others who think they know what they are doing.
Make sure your settings will allow you to get private messages from other members so others can contact you.
  • School-of-hard-knocks ... practical hands-on-training ... and only on demand ... exclusively for personal use. Resources: The Internet and 50 years of wood-woodworking experience, home remodeling, and helping friends. Never been paid for any work I've done, strictly amateur ... but enough experience that I'm not afraid to tackle my own camper.

Repair on my own camper is contingent upon the status of ownership with regards to the age of the camper and if there is any warranty left on the camper. The less warranty, the more I do myself.

The systems on an RV are not rocket science. Simple common logic and a basic understanding of electrical, Plumbing, heating, and air-conditioning, is all it takes.... mostly just common sense. (And a few good Internet sites).
