RV Transport Driver

Has anyone ever done this and if so what are your experiences? I have thought about doing it but want to do some research before I jump into something I might regret later on.

  • Thanks for the information. It sounds like something I could do on the side to help pay off some bills.
  • Yup. If you are commercial and over 10,001 Lbs GCWR you have to meet all DOT requirements. Inspections, logbooks, etc....
  • also, i would imagine that depending on what you were driving and its weight, a cdl would be required.
  • As long as there are people willing to drive a new MH one way and pay for their own way home just for the experience, there's not much of a market for the service. You can count on restrictions during the drive, as well. A set number of days to get there, no smoking, no family, no stopping at attractions, etc.
The same thing happens for private aircraft, only worse. Manufacturers never pay somebody to deliver a plane when there's a line of people waiting to do it for free, just to fly the "new" stuff and log more hours to upgrade their license.
  • IIRC, a recent edition of "Trailer Life" magazine had a story on this. You may want to check that out. Also, search the forum for other threads on this topic.
  • I talk to a couple of people who have done that. They have to pay for the fuel they use and they arent payed much. Have to provide their own transportation back. I have seen a few pull a camper behind the motorhome. Theres where I think the money is.
  • Delivering motorhomes from the factory. I don't have a pickup to tow with.
  • If you mean pulling campers for hire, be prepared to spend money. Upwards of 2,000 a week for expenses.
  • Do you mean delivering new units for the factory or operating a tow vehicle for hire?
