There are several states that have rules that you must occupy the site to keep it.
Citation needed. What does "occupy" mean? That there's always a person on your site 24 hours a day, or that you go onto the site after checking in? What is a solo truck camper to do if they want to go into town for supplies?mbopp wrote:
From the NY DEC regs:
"Campsite or cabin must be registered and occupied
by 9pm on the first night of the reservation or it will be subject to re-rental and fees may be forfeited."
Does not apply. This was not a reservation, they showed up in person on the first day and paid for the site. Also doesn't apply because it wasn't in NY, it was in CO, which has no such rule, they only require that you "show up within 24 hours of your scheduled check in time."
You are wrong in this. From the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website FAQ:
What if I do not show up or cancel?
If you do not show up within 24 hours of your scheduled check in time, and you do not notify the park that you will be arriving late, your site may be resold and may not be available when you arrive. If you call to cancel after your scheduled check in time, you will be referred to the park for possible refund.
In the OP's case, the host was wrong. It pays to come armed with the proper ammunition.
