private parks IMHO can do whatever they want for reservation policies.
Now virtually every state, county, FS, COE campground I have been at have a very specific policy. If you don't show up the night of the reservation, you loose the reservation first thing the next morning.
Looks like the OP may have found an exception to the rule.
Also in the state parks in oregon you must show ID matching the reservation or you loose the reservation when you arrive. NO reserving then selling the reservation or giving it to someone else.
All of the Oregon State Parks I have hosted in...no ranger has ever asked to see ID if the reserved site was occupied and nobody loses their reservation. What parks are you referring to?
here is oregon rules on campsite occupation. must occupy every night.
Division 25 Forest Park and Recreation Areas 629-025-0060(2)(e)(C)
The registered camper must physically occupy the campsite the first night after any belongings are left in the site OR fees are paid. A camper must occupy the campsite each night during the entire length of stay unless other arrangements have been made with the Forester. If a Person has failed to pay the Camping fee for two consecutive days or has exceeded the length of stay time limit the Department may remove all possessions consistent with OAR 629-025-0080.
registered user is the person who made the reservation or paid the fee.
On occasion when we decide to leave early at Oregon state parks, we just let the rangers know when we leave, and every time they then give us a credit for the reservation days un used, usually within a few days, and then I assume they mark the site as available.
I have seen times in oregon state parks where a site was reserved for multiple days and not occupied the first night and the next morning the the ranger came around and removed the reserved sign and makes it available.
