We have a local county owned campground on the lake that is very nice and popular. It has 71 full hook up spots, that were FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. Since opening in the early 90's until 2011, the in county rate was $13, $10 for seniors, and $20 for out of county. You would pull in, back on a spot, and the park ranger would come around in the afternoon to take your payment. You could pay for however long, at a MAX of 14 days, After 14 days, you could move to a different section. If it was in season, you had to leave for 24 hours before returning.
It was getting to bad, that people would go put a tent to save there spot on Monday or Tuesday just to have a spot for the TT for the weekend. Then we had the full timers that had a camping group that would live there. You can't blame them for $364-$560 for four weeks. They had a "club" that rotated from section to section every two weeks.
After many locals complaining, they put a price increase in place, and a rule stating NO saving sites with tents. That helped a good bit, but they still have the issue with the full timers "club".
In 2014, they finally implemented that you MUST leave for 24 hours after 14 days, no matter the season, and they started accepting reservations. That finally pushed the spot saves and the full timers out so that more locals and more people in general are able to enjoy the park.
