- DouglasCExplorerWe have been members of RVillage for over a year & there are now over 25,000 members. It is a way for RVers to get together and meet new friends (if that's what you would like to do). If folks keep their locations up to date, you can search on the map and find many other RVillage members in your immediate geographical area, perhaps even in the same RV park that you are located. We have met new friends that way. As has been mentioned, the site is somewhat of a Facebook for RVers - - but it's more than that too.
- SDcampowneroperExplorerI joined our park to announce get togethers, area events, activities to same minded members nearby. It was a phenomenal success at our recent independence day get together.
When traveling in our away time I use the get together feature to find like minded folks to make up a golf 4 some, fill a fishing charter, a wine tasting circuit, whatever interests you or us!
Its one thing to be a nomad, you do not need to be a lonely one.
Max - WanderlusterExplorerI think RVillage is a good site if enough people are logging in their locations. I also really like MobileRVing.com for their trip planner feature. http://www.mobilerving.com/plan-your-trip
- SCVJeffExplorerLiving the RV Dream Podcast interviewed the developer of this site about a year ago. I had a bunch of headaches trying to sign up that soured me for close to a year.
It's an interesting idea, but the site itself need some work. One of the things that irritated me is that there is no way to take yourself OFF the location list. Checking out of the CG works, but when I want to be off the map, I want a button that says so. Call it 'Off the Map', 'Stealth', etc., don't care. There are allot of somewhat flaky things with the page that don't make it as user friendly as it could be. Mostly the labels aren't clear.
Like Facebook or anything else, it's as invasive as you permit it to be. It doesn't know who you are, and you can easily disguise your RV description, so I'm not sure what all the paranoia is about?
For CG operators this can be a really cool thing to get general notifications to the campground, whether it's free beer at the office, power is out, whatever... But with the miniscule membership I doubt that will ever happen. Personally when I've used it I simply log into the CG location just to see who's around. - lizzieExplorerI joined last year when they first started. So far I have not seen any benefits but haven't had any negative experiences either. Like others, I am waiting to see how it works out. lizzie
- ravExplorerI joined also- go to the home page, click on the profile icon right side. go to edit my profile then (left side) click on delete my profile.
it is like face book for RVers, they have several Escapees groups on there that use it to share info. I will still belong- no problems with it yet. at least they don't send me something in the mail every week! - FLman2ExplorerI made the mistake of joining, but cannot find anyway to unsubribe, I must have had my head up my xxx to have joined. If any one knows how get off it I should like to know.
- Matt_ColieExplorer IIThe plan (as I understand it) with RVillage was to be a social network that allows RVers to keep track of what others are doing and where they are. If you are a long time RVer, you know that you often run into the same folks as you travel. This was just an effort to make locating RV friends more conveniently.
Yes, it has all the privacy issues of Facebook, MySpace or any other social media, but it was arranged to make geographical information easier to establish.
Matt - hitchupExplorerI belong to a few FB RV Groups. The founders of this group seemed to push it in a few. But have heard a few negatives, such as not enough people belong, or they don't update their location often and even they have nothing in common with those who are on.
We are okay with finding our own entertainment. If we want to discuss things to do, places to eat, we talk to the neighbors or someone in the RV Park office. It hasn't seemed to improved much since it first started and I looked into it. - DutchmenSportExplorerI've never seen this site before until now. So I took a peek. I didn't join, but just looking at the description on the front page, it reminds me of another Facebook. If this is what you want ... go for it! Me... I prefer to keep my 2 cents and my anonymity about myself. I don't use Facebook at all, but my wife does, and I growl at her all the time for putting too much personal information out there! She has finally quit posting and just reads now! I think she understands my concern now.
If used the right way and the way it's intended for, looks like it might be a nice site. But not for me!
