Thank you all for such useful insights. It's really appreciated and for sure I'll be doing a lot of digging on the cabins etc for NZ.
Personally, we are not concerned about driving a car generally on the "wrong side of the road" so to speak or even roundabouts (traffic circles in NA), being born and bred in the UK and spending many years driving there, as well going back three times a year on business for many years also driving. Likewise we can drive manual or auto transmissions with ease.
I heed the warning on the size of vehicle for twisty turn, various gradient roads however, with a big RV, but we'd ideally like a camper van with at least a mini bathroom on board, due to the convenience/comfort of having that - noticing it's untold value in recent years here in NA! Likewise we just love, love, love the ambience/serenity of being able to pull over somewhere scenic typically by waters or mountains and wake to the same in the morning when possible.
It is looking as though it would likely make sense for sure to do a car for the North Island and a camper van for the south island, as a way to cut some expenses. That Ferry crossing from NI to SI is a little hefty especially to go both ways. Don't get us wrong, we don't want to compromise on this "once in a lifetime" experience, but equally if there are certain things we can do, that doesn't impact this but reduces costs substantially, then we for sure will take that route.
As always thanks for all the sharing and caring advice, links and contacts :)
