Another Aussie here. You can hire motor homes in both Australia and Newzeland they only come with a cassette like toilets so you take this out and empty at campgrounds, very few dumpstations as not many have the inbuilt tanks. There are many places to "free camp" iover there, wiki camps app has free and paid sites, there are free camps booklets available in Australia. Most people shops at Woolworths or Coles. Petrol prices as said are expensive, the more remote the dearer it gets. Any more information just ask.

G'day mate,
Interesting!
I never thought of dumpstation being a rarity in OZ. We do have this "cassette" toilets called porta potti here. I used to carry one of these when I go hunting in the Colorado mountains. I usually get rid of it on my way back to CA. Expensive proposition but I don't want to be carrying a load of **** in my 4 wheel drive with limited space.
I don't go there with my RV because of the driving condition that is not suited for big rigs.
Even with my 4 wheel drive, I feel leery about getting stuck in a waist-deep snow at 11000 ft. elevation.
So, if I were to drive a rig in OZ, and I decide to drive across the outback, would it be ok to dump anywhere?
I guess it would be annoying to the 'roos hopping around. :-)
People here have Cassettes that can be taken from the RV and dumped in a toilet. Cassettes are far more common ,than black tanks.
"Outback" can mean anything. Most people live on the coast and too a much lesser extent on farmlands, Rural Australia. Outback is in the desert regions of Australia
No you would not be dumping anywhere in Rural Australia, Outback yes. Caravan Parks have dump stations and they can be found across rural and near the Cities in Australia
