Hi
Just to put a little perspective to this thread.
The photos at the beginning showed what is known as a Stelplatz, in France they are known as an Aire. These are parking places for Motorhomes only, free of charge and usually only for 1 or 2 nights. Toilet dumping facilities are available along with a water supply and occasionally a timed electric hookup, although a small charge is made for this. Towns and villages are happy to provide these facilities in return for the RV's custom.
Generally wild camping (boondocking) is not allowed in most of Europe. Individual member countries have their own rules regarding campgrounds. In the UK campsites operate under health and safety regs, which stipulate a distance of 6 mts (about 20 ft) between units.
Snowbirding takes place from most of the N Europe countries mainly to Portugal, Spain and Morocco.
