We've lived in Western Washington for all but three of the 47 years we've been in the US. Those three were in Tidewater VA, when I worked for a contractor at NASA-Langley.
Originally from the UK, we find the coastal NW WA climate just right for us. We hated the high temperatures, humidity and afternoon thunderstorms in VA. People who are used to blue skies and sunshine often get cabin fever during our winter months. 10 weeks of "800 broken, 1500 overcast, rain and fog" can get to you! It's been fairly reasonable this year, with daytime highs in the mid-50s and very few overnight freezes. It's certainly not shorts and T-shirts all year.
