Yes, I get that. I think some people are just better at making friends than others. I'm on the shy side myself and having a warm introduction to someone in advance usually works better for me.

Normally, I would not come up to you and randomly start talking to you. But if I ever knew that 2gypsies was nearby me in a campground, I'd make an effort to say hello to you.

I guess I could never understand why one has to be 'connected' all the time and especially seeking out strangers.

We met plenty of people just on our own in campgrounds and have kept in touch over the years.
There is no requirement to be 'connected' all the time. In fact, I'd say most members don't even bother updating their locations 80% of the time. Weren't those strangers in your own campgrounds before you met them and decided to keep in touch over the years? Would you have felt any less about them had you met them online first? How many campers did you fail to meet with similar interests to yours because you didn't know about them?

  • It is sort of a fun site on its own. But as said, it is a social site with the intent of helping you locate friends you have met. The group association really needs some very serious reorganization as there are many indentical groups and no merger of nearly identical ones. As the group list is not even alphabetical, your chances of finding a group are not very good.

I like it and write there some.

  • It's not intended to do what this site does. It's more of a facebook type thing imo. You can set your location and all the places you have been will show up on a map. You can look for or create get together and locate friends. It's the promotion of all RV'ing and also has a Xscapees group to promote the lifestyle with the vision of the founders of Escapees. Gen X has a good amount of people choosing a mobile lifestyle.
  • My understanding is that the intent of the site is a way to stay in contact with friends that you meet along your RV journeys (social networking for RVers). It uses GPS technology to let you know where your friends are. It doesn't seem fair to compare it to a forum site.

FYI - The ads help fund the free service (similar to broadcast TV).

Agreed. Concept is good but execution not so much. It is free to join so you could give it a shot. It is a "walled garden" unlike this forum which is open.
