Sadly selling our TT this Saturday....

Due to one kid being in HS marching band and the other in middle school football, our weekends are shot from about August on. The younger one is losing interest in camping and I can't justify paying for a trailer and new truck any more. DW is sad about it, but we plan to buy another one (not a bunkhouse!!) once they're gone. We love camping together, so I know we'll be back in it. I've really loved being on this forum and hope I've contributed to help others. I've written reviews here, on rvparkreviews, and rvparky trying to help out. I've also received tons of help here and met some really great people. I will say reducing our debt will be a relief, so that really eases my pain. We do plan to stay in some cabins here and there, so it's not a total end to going to cg's.
Thanks for everything and I'll post up the next time we go camping.

  • This is always a busy period in families' lives. Yep - the teens don't want to camp - they have their social lives to attend to; sports, extracurricular activities; then they get drivers licenses, and jobs, etc.

But then, I'm betting you will find that once your kids are adults, they'll remember the wonderful times they had camping, and want to share that with THEIR families. And (voice of experience here) - there's nothing better than camping with your grandkids :-)
  • I don't know if he's lost his interest, he's just more addicted to xbox then football when it comes again. I'll still post up here when I do anything camping related, that's for sure. I've also learned the hard way, I don't need a brand new truck. If a new truck breaks down while towing, it still has to be towed just like an older one. My next truck will be a 2500 as I can't stand the wallowy suspension of even the "best" towing 1500 truck. My wife already said we should sell our Equalizer hitch as we might have a 5th wheel next time....
  • Saddest part is a middle schooler is losing interest in camping. Everyone has to do what they have to do. We were lucky enough to go seasonal for our kids busy years and would canp Friday nights or go up for the day Sunday or whatever we could. We were also lucky to have our kids camp with us until they were 18. My daughter is done but my 19 year old still goes with us and my 25 year old tents with his wife. Enjoy your time at the field watching the band or the games.
  • Hey, no sweat! I sold my truck and TT in September 2013 and I took some time away from this forum.... Managed to have insomnia one night and ended up typing rv.net in the web browser. Found someone asked a question I had .02 on and replied. :)

You don't have to leave here because you sold the TT.

Cheers and try to enjoy life no matter what you are doing

    Thanks!

  • Please continue to share your knowledge and experiences during this temporary down time. This forum is all about things to see and places to go as well as things one shouldn't do and places to avoid. I haven't hit the road for a couple of years, but I still have my RV. Life gets in the way sometimes, but its temporary. The itch to travel still exists and I intend to scratch it this summer.
  • There is life after children.
When our children, (all eight of them) were young we always went tent camping. As they got older and into the sports, bands and other high school interests, that went the way of all good things. Then one by one they graduated from college, got married and have their own families. After the last one left, we bought a small pop up and realized how much fun we were having so graduated to a 19 foot trailer. Now we have a 25 footer, snow bird in Florida and use it a few times here and there in the summer, and I think this is now the best times of our lives as much as we did enjoy raising a bunch of wonderful children.
