Well just went out to shop and lowered mine on my 2011 Chevy 3500 Duramax and was pleased to find no safety clip whatsoever. So maybe they made the change in that year. Just a cable, it lowered instantly with no problem after being up there for the last three years. But thanks for the heads up. I know my son had major issues on his 2001 Chevy 1500.
